New York Times bestselling author Emma Straub and I have a light hearted conversation about her latest novel, "American Fantasy". Inspired by her experience on the 2023 New Kids On The Block cruise, a trip the two of us both went on. Her focus was not only on the boyband, but the fans that adore them, and all the unique personalities that make up a fandom. The costumes, group photo day, Joey McIntyre's support, and how the book is centered around a fictional boyband. It's a very special story, and how have the fans reacted to the book so far? Jackie & Danielle are the hosts of No More Late Fees Podcast, a retro movies podcast that has been going strong for years! They decided to do another episode with me and talk about Hawaiian pop star Hoku! The daughter of famed singer Don Ho, Hoku shot to fame in the very early 2000's with songs like "Another Dumb Blonde" and "Perfect Day", both from movie soundtracks. We discuss the heavy amount of expectations that were placed on female recording artists of that era, and the possibility of Hoko making a comeback. We also discuss dating woes, and Pokémon GO! On October 2nd, we lost a Canadian music legend. Sass Jordan has passed on, and I felt it would be fitting to re-release her episode of DNP in a special tribute to her life. Her humour, wit, and genuineness shine in this conversation. Feel free to leave comments about your memories of Sass.
