A man wakes up in the middle of the night and sees something massive standing over him in the dark. He looks to the place where his wife should be, but there is no one there. The thing in front of him is big enough to be a bear, but too silent and too calculated to be one. It lunges before he can understand what it is. He fights back in the dark, wounded and half-awake, as the cabin fills with smoke and the walls begin to burn. By the time he escapes, the things that came for them have vanished into the snow. Now he’s staggering through a Montana blizzard, half-frozen and bleeding, toward a valley filled with hundreds of buried shapes. And something is moving down there among them.
