What if the Cold War was fought not only on battlefields, but in the shadows? For decades, Western European countries maintained secret “stay-behind” networks designed to operate behind enemy lines if the Soviet Union invaded. When the existence of Italy’s clandestine network—known as Gladio—was publicly revealed in 1990, it opened a disturbing chapter in Cold War history. Who created these secret armies? What was their relationship with NATO, the CIA and European intelligence agencies? And what happened when the Cold War became a battle for political control within Europe itself? In this episode, we investigate the documented history of Gladio, the mysterious weapons caches, the secret NATO-associated committees, the Peteano bombing, the Bologna massacre, P2 and the controversial “strategy of tension.” We also examine the disputed FM 30-31B document and ask whether it provides genuine evidence of a covert doctrine—or whether it was itself a piece of disinformation. Most importantly, we separate what is documented from what is alleged. And from a biblical perspective, we consider what happens when governments operate in secrecy, violence is justified in the name of security, and truth becomes subordinate to political power.
