Previously, we have covered the American Revolution - the War of American Independence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5_jkn_ODCM&list=PLaBYW76inbX6qMQ2CfpU0TUTxW3-D00nU). The setup episode of our Civil War series will discuss why the South seceded and the real reason behind the American Civil War (https://youtu.be/E_rV6QGjRmQ), while the first episode will describe how and why the American Civil War happened (https://youtu.be/o96xUF5mjOs). The first shots were fired with the Bleeding Kansas in 1854–1861 and John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859, but the war started with the Confederate secession and the attack on Fort Sumter in April of 1861 and the first battle of Bull Run in July of 1861 (https://youtu.be/akciSbEka_E). In the aftermath, Lincoln and his commander, McClellan, launched the Peninsula Campaign, hoping to take the Confederate capital of Richmond during the Seven Days Battles and win the war quickly. (https://youtu.be/7ky86GF-cW0). These events allowed Lee to go on an offensive, leading to the second battle of Manassas (Bull Run), Cedar Mountai,n and Antietam (https://youtu.be/RNUA2vEklIQ). The war continued with the battles of Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg in 1862 (https://youtu.be/2FWziwTQOFA), and the hostilities peaked at Gettysburg in 1863 (https://youtu.be/HXPYeONfF90). In episode 7, we described the naval theater of the war, including the birth of the ironclads and the Battle of Hampton Roads (https://youtu.be/phL_VOwjTtQ), while episode 8 turned towards the western states, as we discuss the events in Kentucky and Missouri, Ulysses Grant enters the war and the battle of Fort Donalson takes place (https://youtu.be/eB21WzUCgWI). The Confederates launched a desperate counterattack at Shiloh, Corinth and Stone’s River (https://youtu.be/FHtJgiMrm64) and Grant's campaigns continued at Vicksburg (https://youtu.be/DPO4lqqfaLw), following the battles at Chickamauga and Chattanooga (https://youtu.be/y76wfHmySak), and Sherman’s campaign from Meridian to Atlanta: maneuvers, battles, leadership shifts, and decisive Union victory (https://youtu.be/tpHEz3iCon4), followed by Grant’s Overland Campaign: Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and the brutal march toward Petersburg.Videos on American history:American Revolution - https://youtu.be/yRfAoxJj5j8When America Invaded Russia - https://youtu.be/7rRq3McTnYsTecumseh and the Native American Resistance - https://youtu.be/cH-T2aY4DPYHistory of the American Mafia - https://youtu.be/jUne3fMzPKUBattle of New Orleans - https://youtu.be/IH6CsX_nOVsThe video was made by Antoni Kamerans, while the script was researched and written by David Ernenwein. Previously, we have covered the First (youtu.be/kxfP_BSnmyw), Third (youtu.be/jCyCSgsFXKQ) and Fourth Crusades (youtu.be/uZ5-wPyqk3s). The 12th-century Crusader States were defined by constant warfare, shifting alliances, and the ambitions of powerful rulers whose decisions shaped the fate of the Latin East. This documentary examines the decades between the death of Baldwin I and the end of the Second Crusade—an era marked by critical battles, political rivalries, and the rise of new powers across the Near East. We follow the ascent of Baldwin II, his capture by Artuqid forces, the desperate campaigns fought to free him, and the fragile balance he maintained among Jerusalem, Antioch, and Edessa. The film highlights the roles of Joscelin I and II, Bohemond II, Raymond of Antioch, Fulk of Anjou, and Queen Melisende, whose conflict with her son Baldwin III reshaped the kingdom’s internal power structure. The narrative then turns to the military crises that defined the era. Key engagements include the catastrophic Battle of Ager Sanguinis (1119), where Antioch’s elite forces were destroyed by Ilghazi; the crucial Battle of Hab, which stabilized the northern frontier; and the decisive Siege of Tyre (1124), a rare major victory for the Crusader coalition. We further explore the expanding influence of Zengi, culminating in the fall of Edessa, the first Crusader state to collapse. His successor, Nur ad-Din, intensified pressure through campaigns in Syria and northern Mesopotamia, including the grinding Siege of Aleppo. These events set the stage for the failed Second Crusade, which ended with the disastrous Siege of Damascus and left the Crusader States weakened and politically divided.Previous videos on the Crusades, Eastern Roman Empire and more:First Crusade: youtu.be/kxfP_BSnmywThird Crusade youtu.be/jCyCSgsFXKQ Fourth Crusade: youtu.be/uZ5-wPyqk3sMedieval Battles: youtube.com/watch?v=r2cEIDZwG5M&list=PLaBYW76inbX46r95D4BjCxiJz7-OeyOtWThe video was made by Martin Stamatov and Talha Sial, while the script was researched and written by Jerzy Dobruchowski.
