CROSSFIRE: Kelvin Sheppard STANDS FIRM on Lions Defensive Strategy, Cardinals GAME Critical

Detroit Lions face a pivotal test as defensive coordinator Kelvin Shepard’s job hangs in the balance ahead of their clash with the Arizona Cardinals. Matt Dery questions whether Sheppard's assertive defense of his play-calling will silence critics or spark bigger changes if the secondary continues to struggle. Key injuries to Brian Branch and Cade Mays add to the intrigue, with rookies and backups poised to step up against Jacoby Brissett, Michael Wilson, and Trey McBride.

Dery breaks down Dan Campbell’s call for more turnovers, increased quarterback pressure, and the elimination of mental errors, wondering if the Lions’ defense can answer. With the NFC showing surprising parity and contenders like the Vikings and 49ers emerging, Dery examines Detroit’s playoff hopes, the importance of upcoming matchups, and debates which players—like Ennis Rakestraw and Keith Abney—must rise to the occasion. Can the Lions seize the moment and prove doubters wrong in a wide-open conference?
