Bias is a huge topic and one that everyone engaged in business and marketing needs to consider very carefully. In this episode, I encourage you to take some initial steps to consider your own biases and blind spots and how these might be showing up in your marketing. There's more to do but this could be a good place to start. You'll learn why it'd be fair to say we are all biased, why awareness is critical to neutralise your biases, how to identify your privileges, and how they influence your worldview. Tune in and find out how biased your communications are and what you can do to change them. What You'll Learn: Three things I learned about myself and my biases Why our brain is constantly making assumptions, and how that affects our biases How to identify your privileges and how they influence your worldview How to evaluate if your content is inclusive Why awareness is critical to neutralise your biases
Becoming aware of your biases is the first step to eliminating them. Marketing and advertising are powerful tools to bring awareness about biases on race, religion, gender, and sexual preferences; you, as marketers and communicators, have a great chance to do it.
It's a lot of hard work, full of mistakes and new beginnings, but with the right mindset and awareness of your own biases, you are set to actually start making a difference.
