LSU GM Billy Glasscock Reveals Lane Kiffin's Roster-Building Blueprint

Billy Glasscock, LSU's general manager, provides insights into the team's roster-building strategy during a recent appearance on the Lane Kiffin show. He emphasizes the importance of balancing high school recruits and transfer portal players, noting that the landscape of college football has shifted to a year-to-year focus, where every player is essentially a free agent each season. Glasscock explains that while they initially signed a significant number of transfer players, the goal moving forward is to create a more balanced roster that includes both high school talent and portal acquisitions.

Glasscock outlines the criteria used to evaluate potential players, which includes talent, character, and durability. He stresses the significance of recruiting players who are not only skilled but also possess strong personal and football character. This approach aims to foster a cohesive team environment where players genuinely support one another. He also highlights the necessity of maintaining relationships with recruits, as these connections can influence decisions when financial offers are comparable.

In discussing the operational aspects of the program, Glasscock reveals that LSU currently employs 83 full-time staff members and has 116 players, indicating a substantial support structure behind the scenes. He notes that the team's strategy involves continuous evaluation of current players to inform future decisions, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming transfer portal window. This proactive approach allows the coaching staff to anticipate needs and make informed choices about roster adjustments.
