Show Notes

The day before she died, Sandra Birchmore told her therapist she was worried something would happen to her in her own apartment. Her therapist explained why on October 23rd, testifying in the federal murder trial of former Stoughton detective Matthew Farwell. Diala Alkhalil said Sandra was doing well on January 31st, 2021, and that in five years of screening Sandra at every session, she never heard a suicidal thought. She also told jurors Sandra said Farwell pushed her during a January argument over the birth certificate, then asked for a key to her apartment. Prosecutors say Farwell strangled Sandra in that apartment the next day to keep her from reporting him, while the defense says she took her own life. On cross, Joanne Daley pressed the FDA's warning on antidepressants for people under 25, since Sandra was two weeks into Zoloft. The medical examiner and Farwell's twin brother are expected next. A man who spent thirty years behind the pulpit left the evangelical church and sat down for the first Homicide Happy Hour to explain what the congregation never sees. Timmy Gibson personally knew Ted Haggard, recognized Caleb Flynn's tears as false humility, and called JP Miller a cult leader on camera. Flynn was convicted on all nine counts in Ashley Flynn's murder and sentenced to life without parole. Miller faces federal charges of cyberstalking and making false statements. He has pleaded not guilty. He is not charged in Mica Miller's death. Gibson says worship team affairs happened in every church he served. He says the Bible teaches that your primary debt after wrongdoing is to God, not to the person you harmed. He quotes Miller's sermons as alleged gaslighting and says every minister he knew lied on their annual licensing form. Timothy Hudson's mother and stepfather — Anna Kepner's own father — would not allow him back in their home after the cruise where Anna was found dead. His defense team says a unique and unfortunate family dynamic has limited their access to relatives and complicated the case. The trial has been pushed back three times, now to January 2027. His lawyers told the court that one unresolved issue is preventing a plea decision. They won't say what it is. The judge has set a hard deadline: January 15th to enter a plea, or January 25th for trial. Hudson faces an alleged 24 to 30 years in a plea deal versus life if convicted. He's sixteen, charged as an adult in federal court, and his defense team acknowledges they've never represented a juvenile in this arena. Hudson is reportedly undergoing mental evaluations that could shape the defense strategy. Anna's father says the family trusts the process. The process has given them three delays, one unnamed issue, and no resolution. Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292 Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The muscle biopsy came back negative in 2001. It was ordered at Tulane, and it said Gypsy Rose Blanchard's muscles were healthy. Dee Dee Blanchard kept the wheelchair. Over the next four years, she had Gypsy's teeth extracted, her salivary glands removed, and continued the feeding tube, the head shaving, and the Botox injections — all on a child whose medical tests said nothing was wrong. One doctor, Marc Flasterstein, put the diagnosis in writing: Munchausen by proxy. He never called anyone. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed the medical records from Louisiana, and Dee Dee relocated to Springfield, Missouri, with a clean history. Habitat for Humanity built them a house. Make-A-Wish gave Gypsy a trip to Disney World. Rod Blanchard signed paperwork for procedures on a daughter he'd been told was terminally ill. Part one of the series documents every failure that kept the fraud running for twenty-three years. Prosecutors allege Matthew Farwell was inside Sandra Birchmore's apartment during the critical time frame. His DNA sits on the ligature as the major contributor. The autopsy revealed a fractured hyoid bone and a severe chest imprint — injuries with no documented parallels in seated self-inflicted cases. Her glasses were set neatly on the bed. The apartment door was locked. The digital contrast is just as stark: Sandra was actively purchasing baby supplies and looking up prenatal vitamins the same day. Farwell was allegedly erasing messages. The FBI recovered over 32,000 texts from his phone that state police never found. The paternity results confirmed the pregnancy was his, and the prosecution's theory centers on the moment Sandra confirmed she was carrying his child and threatened to tell his family. Did investigators find touch DNA, material under her nails, or foreign fibers proving a violent struggle? The defense plans to challenge the federal autopsy. The evidence inside that apartment hasn't cooperated with their version so far. Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292 Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Lindsay Clancy's trial ended 11-to-1 in her favor. The holdout — Michael Desronvil — had a dropped domestic violence charge and an active restraining order against him during the trial. After the mistrial, his name went public. His arrest made television. The defense demanded his phone records. His lawyer said he'd been moved to an undisclosed location for safety. Desronvil says he never doubted Clancy's guilt. The foreperson says he admitted doubt and refused the law. Judge Sullivan denied the defense's records request on October 21st. Now the double jeopardy fight arrives November 2nd. DA Cruz still won't say whether he's retrying. Patrick Clancy went on 60 Minutes, said he's forgiven Lindsay and that she described the night as a dream. He's remarried and building a new life. His lawyer says a retrial is extraordinarily painful. Eleven jurors agreed with the defense. One man held out. And now everyone can see what holding out costs.
