Watch on the Cedar Post: The Nurse Who Vanished at Dawn
A running brown leather wristwatch was found wound in two loops on a gray cedar post, its face frozen at 4:17 and pressed beneath it a hospital ID for a nurse missing eight years - who left no trace the night she vanished. What does the wrong time, a tow log, and pine resin on a band reveal about who left the watch and why?
In this episode, we tell the sequence of events from Heather Walker’s last overnight shift to the discovery that reopened the case years later, and we follow the evidence that stretched across county lines to another survivor’s story. How did a surveyor’s routine walk lead to the one physical clue that changed everything?
Person: Heather Walker Age: 28 Date of disappearance: February 8, 2003 Location: County Road Seven, Millhaven County Responding deputy: Marcus Wills, age 27
- Heather clocked out at 7:15 AM on February 8, 2003, and surveillance confirmed her leaving Garner Falls Regional Medical Center. - A Sunoco transaction at 6:58 AM on Route 22 recorded a bottle of water and a pack of gum on Heather’s card. - Heather’s dark green Honda Civic was found on the shoulder of County Road Seven the next afternoon, engine cold and undamaged, pointed east about a quarter mile from a gray cedar post. - An initial officer’s note recorded the driver’s seat adjusted for someone approximately 5 feet 3 inches, while Heather’s height was 5 feet 6 inches. - In February 2011 county surveyor Rachel Patterson found a running brown leather wristwatch at 60 yards into the woods, wound in two loops with Heather Walker’s hospital ID pressed beneath it.
