SKYFALL is a frustrating movie and it’s a particularly difficult one for me to RANK, because precisely one half of me loves it, while the other half f***ing hates it.
The guys who wrote The World Is Not Enough are back to once again give Bond a shoulder injury that hardly has any bearing on the plot while they try their best to remake GoldenEye, the story of an older and (according to other characters in the film) washed up James Bond who faces his equal but opposite, his shadow, an ex-00 agent named Silva who just like Alec Trevelyan heads up his own criminal enterprise taking on missions for cash instead of for king and country.
However, where GoldenEye had the advantage of coming on the heels of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War (the very reason the 00 program was instituted in the first place), Skyfall has what? The Internet? Does that mean war and threats from rogue states and the necessity of maintaining boots on the ground is suddenly outdated? The whole argument is that the shadows don’t exist anymore, which is absurd because this movie takes place ten years after 9/11.
It’s all meant to give the impression that this movie is super smart and meaningful, which perhaps it is in part, I’ll definitely give it good bad guy status, but simultaneously it is by far the most annoyingly contrived and self-aggrandizing Bond film to date, which we’ll get into in excruciating detail by tearing apart the plot, and when it crumbles, we will stand tall and face it all, together.

They succeed, but in doing so they incidentally burn off his gills, causing him to rapidly mutate into what is essentially the Frankenstein Monster, a lumbering mute beast that they lock in a caged habitat in an attempt to acclimate him to living among humans. But when one of the men tries to give grapes to the hot lady, her husband permanently corrects him, making it look like the creature did it. Wise to his game, the creature busts out to fuck shit up and deliver some street justice to the husband AND HE DIES, but not the creature, who sees that civilization is just as wild as his jungle home, towards which he sets out to return, and he lives...📋 PREVIOUS EPISODE RANKED LIST 📋1. Then they throw some dynamite at the mummy AND HE DIES! And then they turn the tomb into a night club, which is simply amazing.📋 PREVIOUS EPISODE RANKED LIST 📋1. The Bride of Frankenstein2.
