DEREK Pender is synonymous with Bohs following an eight year stint in Dalymount Park.
He’d been around the block before that, and played for the rest of Dublin’s big 4 before settling down just up the road from where he grew up.
The full back opens up about his difficulties growing up surrounded by addiction in Dublin’s north inner city, and how football and his other work in banking offered him an escape route.
He discusses the day he infuriated Ireland hero Niall Quinn, almost smashing a manager’s car in a fury, why he regrets threatening to go on strike at St. Pat’s, and the decision to take the Bohs job the weekend his mum died.
Episode 2 of This Is Your LOIfe season 2 also hears why “Detzer” had no football memorabilia to bring with him to Irish Sun studios! This is a podcast chatting to the legends of the League of Ireland- the good, the bad and the glory days. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
