ModChat 112 - bd-jb Updated, PS5 Backups Running, Xbox Video Chat Revived with PS2 EyeToy Camera
ModChatShow Notes
Starting off this episode with another PS1 English translation patch, this one being released for the game Addie no Okurimono. Game Boy Advance lovers can rejoice knowing they can replicate some original PCBs thanks to the original boards being reverse engineered and released for free on GitHub! The PS5 gets some big updates, one being for bd-jb now updated to work up to firmware 7.61 for disc based consoles. We also have a big proof of concept teased showing PS5 game backups running for the first time on a modified PS5! We highlight an interesting addition to Insignia Live, with that being the Xbox Video Chat application being revived. Even better, if you can't get an original Xbox webcam, would you believe that with a couple modifications you can use a PS2 EyeToy camera on the Xbox? If that's not enough off the wall modifications to add into this episode, we also check out a prototype proof of concept of what could have been if Metal Gear Solid 2 released on the Dreamcast.

Another densely packed episode, this time still managing to be almost two hours in runtime despite the topics here being releases we've seen within the past month! The PS5 gets a ton of attention with both a full jailbreak and a hypervisor exploit releasing for firmware 13.60, as well as the long awaited Peer Pressure softmod for Xbox 360 which dropped the same week. The PS3 also gets some major love thanks to the bootloader being decrypted, and we of course have TONS of ports to go over!
Lend your eyes and ears to the longest ModChat episode in a while! Due to missing last month's episode, I decided to have two months worth of content into a single episode and... Well, here we are with a nearly two hour episode! PS5 drama around the hypervisor, new PS4 and PS5 jailbreaks, PSX/PS2 love, and of course tons of new developments released and incoming for the Xbox 360. This is without a doubt one of the busiest times in the modding world I've seen, and that doesn't include the countless game ports we're seeing either! Oh yeah, several of those get some love here.
We've got a bit of everything this time around for ModChat! Recompilations are picking up more steam thanks to ModernGekko paired with DolRecomp. The 3DS gets a low level emulator, and the PS5 gets big news on TWO emulators! Both Switch and Switch 2 get a userland exploit teased on them. We've also got some substantial ports such as Unreal Tournament on the original Xbox, a whole Dreamcast emulator also for the original Xbox, and a Half-Life port teased for the PS1 of all things. Oh, and if you're smart with the PS5 and like money, you might want to stay tuned for the jailbreak bounty from FULU.
Looks like these hour or longer episodes might be the standard for ModChat now, huh? That's just how much has been happening recently! P2JB on PS5 gets ported to multiple entry points, but that's not all for the exciting bits! There's been discoveries made over how to get around the PCIe 4.0 SSD limitation the PS5 implemented, as well as some awesome further developments and applications being made to help the PS5 scene even further. The PS2 gets some arcade love thanks to the PCSX2x6 emulator, making System246 and System256 emulation accessible and possible. Bad Update or ABadAvatar users also get to see a whole new feature added to the Xbox 360 thanks to a standby mode being developed! The PS1 also gets some love between a solderless ODE and the PS1USB development cartridge. Tune in, listen, and enjoy for more modding news!
More developments and releases surrounding mostly the PS4 and PS5 in this episode! This starts out with mentioning tico, an emulator frontend for the Switch which brings native GameCube and Wii emulation to the Switch in a recent update. The PS4 and PS5 license change which was quietly released recently gets broken down and explained here as well, just before the news of the PS5 Linux Loader dropping! We also see a new jailbreak for PS5 working up to firmware 12.70 which requires some patience if you can spare a couple hours per run. There's also some pretty neat releases here for the PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and even Xbox One! Tune in and enjoy.
