Prince Harry’s Royal Reconciliation Plea Backfires

Prince Harry's latest attempt to discuss reconciliation with King Charles and Prince William has triggered another wave of criticism, with royal commentators accusing the Duke of Sussex of making peace with his family more difficult every time he speaks publicly.

Harry's controversial GQ interview included his declaration that “some people don't want it to work out,” prompting speculation that he was referring to his father or brother.

His spokesperson quickly clarified that the remarks were “absolutely not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other member of his family.”

But the clarification has done little to silence his critics.

Express columnist Emily Ferguson questions why Harry's interview was released on the same day King Charles hosted the Sultan of Oman for a major state visit. Fellow columnist Emily Wright argues that Harry's return to Britain represents an admission that his California life has failed to provide the sense of family and community he wanted.

The Telegraph's Melanie McDonagh has a simpler suggestion for Harry: stop talking publicly about reconciliation if he genuinely wants to repair his family relationships.

Piers Morgan offered his own sharp assessment, comparing Harry to someone who has set houses on fire and now wants peace with their occupants.

Meanwhile, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond says Harry remains personable and engaging but appears naive about the consequences of his public comments. She argues that his memoir Spare and repeated interviews have made rebuilding trust with William and Charles more difficult.

Royal commentator Tom Sykes predicts William will maintain his silence rather than respond to his brother's latest statements.

And Meghan Markle is facing a separate controversy over the Sussexes' recent Nottingham appearance.

Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English questions why the couple publicized details of their visit in advance while continuing to raise concerns about their security. English speculates about whether encouraging crowds could strengthen Harry's arguments for police protection, although she offers no evidence that the couple intended to provoke an incident.
