Do kids hate walking the Camino? - Kev's Travel Stories
The Top Travel Destinations with Kevin FlanaganShow Notes
When I decided to take my grandkids on part of the Camino de Santiago, I had real doubts. Kuba was 11. Maya was 9. And they were used to the good life — Club Med ski trips, lakeside hotels in Limone sul Garda, city breaks in Ghent, Antwerp, and Venice. This was something else entirely. No screens.Long walks.Rain.Blisters. And a strange atmosphere — pilgrims from all over the world, each carrying something, searching for something… sometimes even God. I’ll be honest — I wasn’t sure they’d take to it. In fact, I thought they might hate it. But we went anyway. And this is the story of Kuba and Maya on the Camino — it may surprise you! I went to Derry without expecting very much and came away blown away by the city. In this episode, I remember its winter lights, its extraordinary welcome, a Derry Girls afternoon tea and a light show in the old city. I take a boat trip on the River Foyle, then join a Free Derry walking tour through the Bogside, where the story of Bloody Sunday gives the visit an entirely different depth. It’s a travel story about a city that surprised me, delighted me and stayed with me.
