Dry Wallet at Milepost 214: Who Returned Julie's Stolen Past?

A bright teal wallet with a hand-stitched daisy was found completely dry on a wet restroom sink seven and a half hours after the last recorded vehicle at Milepost 214, with $47 and Julie Anne Anne’s Kansas license inside - so who drove it there and why? What decision sent that wallet on a 700-mile round trip through the night, only to be left, dry and immaculate, in a deserted rest stop?

In this episode, we follow the timeline from a January car break-in to the February recovery at a highway rest area, tracing the people, reports, and odd physical details that refuse to line up. How did an object that should have been soaked sit perfectly dry on a cold, condensation-covered sink?

Person: Julie Anne Anne Date: January 22, 2011 (theft) and February 11, 2011 (confirmation) Location: Milepost 214 rest area on Interstate 70; Lawrence, Kansas (owner) Event: Vehicle window broken; wallet stolen and later recovered Amount: $47 in cash inside the wallet

- The wallet was found at 7:15 AM on a Wednesday morning with every restroom surface wet from condensation but the wallet completely dry. - The last vehicle recorded at Milepost 214 was 7.5 hours before Lauren Brooks discovered the wallet. - Julie’s passenger window was broken on January 22, 2011, and the teal wallet was taken from the center console. - Lauren Brooks, a Shepherd’s Table volunteer, found the wallet in the third sink from the left with flat, uncreased bills like they came straight from an ATM. - Detective Ray Doss contacted Julie on February 9, 2011; she confirmed the wallet at the Ellsworth substation on February 11 upon seeing the embroidered daisy.
