If your reading is high but you’re not having an emergency, start with safety: re-check the meter if it seems off, drink water, and do 10–20 minutes of moderate movement (a brisk walk or short movement snacks) to help muscles pull glucose from your blood. For the next meal, prioritize protein, fiber, and non-starchy vegetables, eat veggies and protein before carbs, and keep carbs smaller and slower. Simple stress-reduction (slow breathing) can help, vinegar may blunt spikes modestly for some, and long-term habits—resistance training, consistent meals, and tracking personal triggers—reduce spikes over time. If you’re very unwell, ketone-positive, or on glucose-lowering meds, follow your clinician’s plan and seek medical care when needed.
