What does it take to DESIGN Shoes?

Would You Believe…? with Rebecca Rogers

Show Notes

Seth Fowler is an industrial designer, and if you have no idea what that means... Don't worry, I didn't either! Seth loves shoes and sneakers SO MUCH, that he opened his own shoe business and DESIGNS all of his products himself. This is actually so much more work than you might think! From the physical shape, to the materials it is made of, there are so many variables to think of and consider that make his products stand above the rest. I am so glad that the founder of "Apthcry" sat down and talked to me about what he does, and what goes into designing real life, functional sneakers!

Is stretching actually helping you? Is Pilates enough to build strength? Will lifting weights make women bulky? And could the reason your back hurts have absolutely nothing to do with your back? This week, I'm joined by Taylor Rose, an Australian physiotherapist, entrepreneur, and fitness educator who's challenging conventional approaches to physical therapy and women's fitness. We discuss some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding exercise, chronic pain, flexibility, and women's bodies. Taylor explains why she believes stretching isn't always the answer, why strength training is so important, and how social media has influenced the way women approach fitness, but this conversation goes well beyond the gym. Taylor shares her journey from Australia to America, how losing her first job in the United States ultimately led her to build her own business, and why she's working to change the rehabilitation industry.

Faye went to her doctor throughout her adolescent years with major concerns... yet was turned away. Her doctors actually chalked her fainting up to... menstrual cycle issues...? This led to a major accident which left Faye with lasting brain damage, all because her condition was not taken seriously or treated. Faye has since found a way to live in her new reality, and yet still does it with such a big heart and positive attitude. As much as I love to have medical professionals on my podcast, this is a good reminder that not everyone in every profession deserves to be there, and sometimes those individuals can create lasting detriments to those they encounter.

I learned so much about being a foster parent from my friend Peter a few years ago, I was thrilled to get another perspective on this incredibly important role in society from my friend Laura! Laura is a foster parent who focuses primarily on trauma informed parenting. She taught me so much about how traditional discipline does not always work when it comes to children who have been traumatized by previous horrors, and understanding how to better care for these kids is SO important to their wellbeing. When we are all a little more informed, we can all contribute to a society better equipped to help children in need. Thank you to all of the amazing foster parents out there, Laura and Peter included, who take the biggest first steps in assisting these kids!

Andrew was just being silly on social media... and it ended up giving him TWO whole careers! Not only did it establish a social media presence (which is impressive on its own), it helped him to become one of LA's top realtors. Andrew's story is the epitome of "follow your dreams" and is the perfect example of how following your passions is the best way to find your niche. And of course in THIS economy, we are going to take any house buying tips we can get!
