Publisher's Summary: The story takes the listener through a year of high school that Taruka is not likely to forget. Taruka is the new girl at the high school in town. She makes friends and meets a boy, Cooper. Like Cooper and many of the students at the school, Taruka is very involved in sports, so she gets along with her new classmates well. But issues arise with her newfound friendship with Cooper when their differences are highlighted by the adults in their lives. This audiobook is intended for students learning Spanish. While the story has a plot similar to the classic story of Romeo and Juliet or Tony and Maria, the vocabulary and grammar are simple and comprehensible, even for those just beginning with Spanish.
Opiniones de los miembros: ¡Una novela excelente para su clase! Jennifer Degenhardt has hit on a great formula with this book. Take high school age characters, add teenage angst, a dose of Facebook and texting, and finish it off with forbidden love and you have a wonderful recipe for a FVR/SSR novel. My students have enjoyed this book. It is written at a level that my Spanish II and higher students can read it independently, while my Spanish I students can read with assistance. The chapters are a perfect length for this setting and have just enough action to keep the plot moving forward. I have just added Jennifer's 2nd book "La Niñera" to my FVR library, and I am looking forward to her 3rd novel which I hear is coming out soon! Keep your eyes out for it!
Highly recommended! I have this book as part of my classroom FVR library for my Spanish 1 students, and I have found that many of my middle school students gravitate to this book. It is very comprehensible for my novice students, and has themes that appeal to the adolescent reader. Highly recommended!
My students really enjoyed this book My students really enjoyed this book. The language was very simple and accessible for emerging language learners. This book is ideal for first- and second-year students and would make a great addition to any classroom library. Highly recommend.
Great choice My kids loved this book! I am a CI teacher and I used it as an free voluntary reading book for second semester Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. The story is awesome and very appropriate given the tough political climate lately.
SSR library book I have this book in my SSR library. I know a couple of students who loved this book last year. It's an easy and interesting read for 1st and 2nd year students.
