Kitchen Table Talk | David Bowie and the 20th Century Fox Records Idea

Kitchen Table Talk with Hollywood Khan

Show Notes

I had a film financing deal with 20th Century Fox: $50 million from Fox and $50 million from my side. My thought was simple: why not build a new Fox Records around it — an artist-friendly music label connected to film and a new era of digital distribution? I left David Bowie a note. We went to dinner at Cicada. I suggested Indian; David told me Iman made the best chicken curry. The next day, David arrived with four CDs for me to listen to — bands he wanted my opinion on. I was honestly honored. Then he noticed the Palm Treo on my coffee table. I told him I believed music, films and information would eventually live on devices like this — and, combined with News Corp’s satellite reach, could create a new way of delivering entertainment on a massive scale. John Hartnett, then VP at Palm, subsequently sent several devices for Bowie and his team to use while on tour with Nine Inch Nails. The underlying film transaction was handled with my attorneys Ken Kleinberg and Robert Lange, who had previously worked with Jerry Weintraub. And then came the party… NEXT: What happened when David Bowie walked through the door?

Before Kitchen Table Talk had a name, Hollywood Khan was already sitting down with models, singers and actors for candid conversations beyond the spotlight. From his experiences around the fashion world in New York, Paris and Shanghai, Khan had seen firsthand the pressure women faced to change their bodies—and the toll extreme dieting could take. In this three-minute archive interview, filmed at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto before a Victoria’s Secret audition, Stockholm-born model and singer Josefine talks about food, modelling and her own approach to eating. Josefine also occasionally lends her voice to Hollywood Khan’s music tracks, adding another connection between these early conversations and his work today. As Victoria’s Secret returns to the spotlight, Hollywood opens his archive to revisit a conversation about the woman behind the runway. An archive conversation recorded before the launch of Kitchen Table Talk. #victoriasecret #model #modeldiet

As David Bowie’s estate launches Bowie80 celebrations on October 5, Kitchen Table Talk with Hollywood Khan joins the celebration with a personal story of the artist’s generosity—and a note that never reached its intended recipient. After receiving guitars made by Phillip Jarrell, Bowie requested that they be gifted to Lewis Hamilton. Hollywood recalls Bowie’s admiration for Lewis’s extraordinary talent and his determination to claim his place in a sport with so little representation for people of colour. At the time, those helping deliver the gift did not know of Bowie’s condition. His death seven months later gave the gesture an even deeper significance. For the first time, Hollywood reveals that a note from Bowie accompanied the guitars—but never made it to Lewis. The story takes us inside Formula One and Hollywood’s relationship with its legendary impresario, Bernie Ecclestone—including selling Bernie his business partner Adnan Khashoggi’s building at Princes Gate. These are the connections behind “Stories from the Inside Man.” Featuring never-before-seen photographs of Hamilton fans with the guitar before its delivery to Bernie, the episode captures the effort, excitement and personal moments behind bringing Bowie’s gift to Lewis. The episode closes with Lewis Hamilton playing guitar alongside Canadian singer Savana, singing lyrics by Hollywood Khan mixed by Hollywood Khan over Lewis Hamilton test driving the guitar. The journey continues throughout 2027 with The Bowie Table, Hollywood Khan’s musical reinterpretations of David Bowie’s recordings with producer Shel Talmy, and a silent dance film—an independent celebration of Bowie’s enduring inspiration. A gift, a missing note, and an inside story of David Bowie’s generosity. #KitchentabletalkwithHollywoodKhan #F1 #BOWIE80

Hollywood Khan begins with a photograph from 1993 and Black Tie White Noise — where his journey with David Bowie began. More than three decades later, The Shel Talmy Recordings have reached No. 3 on the UK Official Albums Chart, while Bowie has reached the milestone of 100 charting titles — joining Elvis Presley. For Hollywood Khan, it brings an extraordinary journey full circle: David Bowie, the avant-garde artist. Shel Talmy, the producer. Hollywood Khan, the dreamer. From Black Tie White Noise to the lost early recordings, from a seven-year journey to their eventual release — and now, Bowie and Elvis connected by a remarkable chart milestone. A deeply personal Kitchen Table Talk told slowly, imperfectly and from the heart. No script. No polish. Just the story as it was remembered. #davidbowie #elvispresley #sheltalmy

avid Bowie | The Seven-Year Journey brings together the complete Kitchen Table Talk with Hollywood Khan series into one documentary. In 2026, the journey reaches its conclusion as the Shel Talmy recordings are released through Parlophone/Rhino and become available to listeners around the world. Rare recordings. Real stories.
