The Road to Grandeur starts off with a bang when a 14-year-old thief named Jayde is running rooftop to rooftop with three people trying to kill her, and she has no idea why. She ends up dangling from a rooftop, but that's when an even shadier character appears.

Jayde confronts the bozrac, but a creature that can phase through solid objects is impossible to stop. Also, the final chapter of the book tells of a next story to be told.
Jayde and Sarah finally meet. Cameron is sure something unexpected will happen, and it does. However, this is not the only unexpected meeting, and when Slicy and Cameron meet, both immediately draw blades. Unfortunately, both have a history, and the Dark King is coming.
Jayde encounters Slicy, an eccentric assassin deep within the Assassin's Order. She discovers that her history and many of the past events have been leading toward a terrifying and sinister end.
Sarah goes to Cameron's clinic and is evaluated, revealing some frighting discoveries.
Jayde has a delivery in the Thieves' District to an old friend of Yow Li. Apparently other individuals have seen her skills as well. She then comes to an ominous building and discovers she must go deep within the Assassin's order.
