Helen Bartrom is a certified hypnotherapist, hypnobirthing facilitator, and founder of Positive Births NZ. Helen is passionate about the mind-body connection and is here today to talk to us about hypnotherapy. She finds hypnotherapy to be an amazing and effective tool to get to the root cause of a lot of life’s “issues”. With her clients, Helen will work with a variety of challenges such as: resolving trauma, releasing fears and phobias, overcoming addictions and unhelpful behaviors, and dealing with stress and anxiety. Helping people to achieve more confidence, shift and lose weight, deal with menopause challenges, parenting challenges, - she even does past life regressions.
Helen’s hypnotherapy sessions can be likened to counseling combined with that extra edge that cuts deep to the root issues in order to release or break the patterns and habits that limit us or hold us back. She combines this with practical tools to take away that can be used in everyday life and will often incorporate breathwork and mindfulness into her sessions. Helen works online and in person, with the majority of her work now online as it’s just as effective – therefore she has an international client base and can work with anyone anywhere in the world.

We can be kind to others and still be incredibly hard on ourselves. Homeopath and meditation teacher Ann Manning shares how she learned to practise self-compassion and change the way she speaks to herself. We discuss the role of mindfulness, kindness, and common humanity, along with how to handle shame and self-criticism. Ann also explains why self-compassion isn’t about being soft on ourselves, but learning to respond with understanding while standing up for ourselves when needed. After working in theatre and exploring spiritual practices, including living in ashrams in India, America, and Australia, she later discovered homeopathy through her daughter’s recurring ear infections. This experience inspired her to study homeopathy at the Sydney College of Homeopathic Medicine. She graduated and began practising in 2002, later teaching a range of homeopathic subjects and supervising clinical practice at Endeavour College. Alongside her homeopathy work, Ann continued her meditation practice and served as a meditation teacher. In 2018, she discovered Mindful Self-Compassion, a practice that deeply resonated with her, leading her to complete the teacher training and begin teaching courses based on the program. She now teaches Mindful Self-Compassion and offers more intensive one-on-one training through Unravelling Unworthiness, which draws on self-compassion and related practices to help people develop a kinder relationship with themselves.
