Show Notes
NHL expansion is coming — and the Montreal Canadiens may already be prepared for it. In this episode of The Starr & D’Amico Show, we break down what a future NHL Expansion Draft could look like for the Habs and the difficult decisions Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton could eventually face. Who would the Canadiens protect? Which players could be left exposed? And could Montreal actually come out of an expansion draft in BETTER shape than some other NHL teams? We take a look at the Habs' young core, their contract structure, roster construction and how management has quietly positioned the organization to handle NHL expansion without putting its most important pieces at risk. From Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov to the rest of Montreal's emerging roster, we build our Canadiens protection list and identify some surprising names who could potentially be available. The NHL hasn't officially announced its next expansion franchises yet, but if expansion is coming, the Canadiens look like a team that's already thinking several moves ahead.
