On May 25, 1979, six-year-old Etan Patz left his New York home to walk to the school bus stop alone for the first time.
He never made it.
His disappearance became one of the most famous missing child cases in American history and helped transform the way missing children were publicised across the country. Decades later, Pedro Hernandez was convicted of Etan’s kidnapping and murder, but Etan’s body has never been found. As America reeled from the attacks of September 11, 2001, Michele Anne Harris disappeared from upstate New York.
