Fear of Recurrence After Breast Cancer: 5 Things That Help Me, 10 Years On

Breast Wise: Unafraid

Show Notes

Everyone is celebrating the end of treatment, and you still can't shake the fear of it coming back. This one is for you. Ten years after her own stage two breast cancer diagnosis, Katherine shares the five steps she has leaned on to live with fear of recurrence, the same steps she now walks her coaching clients through. None of them ask you to think your way out of fear. They work with your body, because that's where the fear is living. In this episode: 1. Let the fear be there. Pushing it away tends to make it louder. 2. Notice where it shows up in your body, from gut tension to heart palpitations. 3. Tell one person you trust, someone who won't judge or hand you advice you didn't ask for. 4. Build in touch. Hugs, holding hands, your dog or cat, or a firm hug for yourself. 5. Interrupt the fear loop with something you enjoy, like a gentle walk or music you can move to. Fear of recurrence is manageable, and it does not have to be your forever.
