JUSTRIDE Podcast

Show Notes

Are most motorcyclists actually braking wrong?

In Episode 2 of the JUSTRIDE Podcast, we’re joined by Mike Abbott, founder of the British Superbike School, who isn’t afraid to challenge the motorcycle training system.

Mike makes some bold claims: It can take 24 years for riders to become competent Half of riders can’t brake properly Some widely taught techniques may actually increase risk Many crashes on bends are not about speed — they’re about ability

And yes… this episode will definitely divide opinion.

🏍 In This Episode We dive into: The biggest myths in motorcycle training Why many riders struggle with braking The truth about trail braking Cornering mistakes riders make Why junctions and bends cause so many crashes How to practice braking safely What riders should do when coming back after winter The problem of young and unlicensed riders Whether advanced training actually makes riders safer

Mike has trained hundreds of riders and worked with universities and safety organisations, and his views challenge some of the most widely accepted practices in motorcycling today.

Expect strong opinions, debate, and plenty of rider discussion.

What happens when someone who once struggled with severe anxiety decides to get on a motorcycle and just keep going? In this episode of the JUSTRIDE Podcast, we're joined by motorcycle traveller, reviewer and content creator Jade Rides. Jade has ridden motorcycles across 22 countries, including an epic solo journey through 19 countries to Georgia and back. But, as we discover, the reason that adventure started wasn't quite what you'd expect… “It was completely out of spite.” 😂 We talk about how motorcycling helped Jade deal with anxiety and build confidence, travelling alone across Europe, tackling the Stella Alpina, riding the Wild Atlantic Way and Pyrenees, and why sometimes the best approach to motorcycle travel is to stop overplanning and just go. Jade also tells us the incredible story of finding a tiny puppy at the side of the road in Kosovo, putting her in a tank bag and eventually bringing not one — but TWO — rescue dogs home. We also get into: 🏍️ Going from a Suzuki VanVan to riding across 22 countries 🌍 Solo motorcycle travel and overcoming anxiety 🐶 Rescuing Lucky and Max while travelling 🏁 Riding the Norton Manx R on track 🇮🇸 Testing the new Norton Atlas in Iceland 🎥 The reality of becoming a motorcycle content creator 💛 Jade and Street Twin Kim's work with Endo Riders 🇳🇵 Plans for a future women's motorcycle trip to Nepal ⚡ The future of motorcycling, electric bikes and emerging manufacturers ⛺ Why Jade thinks some motorcycle-specific camping gear is… “crap” It's funny, open and at times incredibly personal and one of those conversations that reminds you just how much motorcycling can change someone's life.
