Ian Poulter on LIV Golf, Medinah 2012 & Being Golf’s Ultimate Ryder Cup Assassin
Tee It Up Golf PodcastShow Notes
Ian Poulter joins Tee It Up for a wide-ranging conversation on one of the most fascinating careers in modern golf.
From the moment you Google Ian Poulter and see the bold personality, loud fashion and unmistakable confidence, it’s clear he was never going to blend into the background. Long before individuality became normal in golf, Poulter turned style into identity — loud pants, bright colours and an attitude that made him one of the game’s most recognisable figures.
Poulter opens up on his journey through the professional game, including the memorable 2020 Travelers Championship moment playing alongside fellow Aussie Greg Chalmers, and how his unique brand helped him carve out a place among the sport’s biggest personalities.
We also dive into the LIV Golf era and Poulter’s role with The Majesticks, discussing the team concept, leadership dynamics and the challenge of seeing longtime teammate Henrik Stenson move on. Poulter reflects on the incredible generation he shared with Stenson and Lee Westwood, and what it’s like navigating the changing landscape of professional golf — including the ongoing debate around world ranking points.
Of course, no Ian Poulter conversation is complete without reliving Medinah 2012. Poulter takes us inside the moment that helped spark the greatest comeback in Ryder Cup history — five birdies in the final five holes on Saturday afternoon that ignited Team Europe when they were staring down a 10–6 deficit. The emotion, the energy, the momentum shift that turned the entire event.
Finally, we reflect on legacy. When it’s all said and done, what does Poulter want to be remembered for? From Ryder Cup assassin to emotional leader, clutch putter and one of the most distinctive personalities golf has ever seen, Poulter’s career is filled with moments that shaped the modern Ryder Cup era.
A brilliant insight into the mindset of one of Europe’s fiercest competitors and most unforgettable characters.
