Jeff Howe, CJ Vogel and Hank South evaluate Texas’ 2026 freshman class at the halfway point of the season. Jermaine Bishop Jr., Richard Wesley and Derrek Cooper have separated themselves as the Longhorns’ “Big Three,” and the offense consistently looks more dangerous when Bishop and Cooper are involved. With Texas entering must-win territory, both freshmen need significantly larger roles during the second half of the season.
Wesley is also positioned for a major opportunity following Colin Simmons’ injury, bringing explosive pass-rush ability and infectious energy despite being young enough to still be in high school. The crew also identifies Kosi Okpala as the freshman most likely to join the leading trio, especially as Texas searches for additional pressure, linebacker depth and defensive playmakers ahead of Ole Miss.

Jeff Howe, CJ Vogel and Hank South react to Steve Sarkisian’s final comments before Texas faces Ole Miss. Arch Manning remains the Longhorns’ starting quarterback, but K.J. Lacey has prepared for a potential opportunity after receiving significant practice reps. The crew explains what could trigger a change at quarterback and whether more Derrek Cooper, new personnel combinations and a simpler approach can revive the struggling offense.
