It's Not Too Late: The Lies About Aging We're Done Believing

Your Wellness Besties

Show Notes

Your 20s told you who to be. Your 30s told you who to take care of. Your 40s and 50s? They're telling you to cut your hair, cover your arms, and quietly fade out. We're not doing that.

In this episode, Lisette and Nicole take apart the outdated rules women in midlife are handed about what to wear, how to act, and what's "too late" to start.

Lisette almost talked herself out of a brand event in NYC, intimidated by fashion creators she'd followed for years, until her 23-year-old daughter told her she belonged in that room. She also shares how, after 15 years at home, she wrote "you're not too old and it's not too late" in her journal again and again until she finally believed it and did something about it.

Nicole opens up about holding back from showing up online for years out of fear of judgment, even after more than a decade of inspiring women through fitness and wellness.

They also cover imposter syndrome, the fear of what people will say when you reinvent yourself, why our mothers seemed so much older at this age (the Golden Girls were our age!), ageism at work, and why starting over now can actually be easier than it was at 25.

If you've been told you're too old, too late, or too much, this is your sign. Unshrink. Take up space. The only permission you need is your own.

Are your standards too high, or have you spent years making yourself easier for everyone else? In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole get honest about raising your standards in midlife, asking for what you want, and getting comfortable with people having an opinion about it. Lisette reflects on spending her 30s in survival mode with three kids, saying yes to everything and staying quiet to keep the peace. Nicole shares how accepting unhealthy relationships in her 20s eventually taught her to set boundaries that protect her time and energy. From friendships and relationships to business, fitness, and how you show up for yourself, this conversation explores what happens when your choices finally reflect your worth. We get into: • The difference between high standards and perfectionism • Asking for what you want without apologizing • Charging what you're worth and delegating to reclaim your time • Why some friendships shift when your lifestyle changes • How sobriety helped Lisette gain clarity and bet on herself • Building confidence through action and following through on your commitments If you've been lowering your standards to avoid judgment or keep everyone comfortable, ask yourself: What is keeping the peace costing you? This week's challenge: Write down one standard you've been quietly lowering. What would it take to raise it back up? DM us at @yourwellnessbesties on Instagram. We want to hear your answer. You don’t have to have a drinking problem to realize drinking is a problem for the life you want. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole get honest about why they stopped drinking in their 50s, what they miss, and what made them decide they didn’t want to go back. For Lisette, it started with a moment at the shore: drinking at 2 p.m. instead of enjoying the beach with her kids. What began as a 30-day break became a lasting decision. She shares her experience with gray area drinking, the awkwardness of going out sober, and how completing 75 Hard strengthened her commitment. Nicole opens up about how having a sober fiancé supported her decision and why alcohol no longer fit her training, nutrition, and health goals. She shares the changes she noticed in her anxiety, mood, and mental clarity, and why keeping that promise to herself matters. Together, they talk about missing the relaxed feeling of a drink, navigating friendships that changed, and why moderation doesn’t work for everyone. They also share what they gained: mornings without hangovers, more energy for workouts, and greater confidence in their choices. If you’ve been thinking about taking a break or questioning whether alcohol still fits your life, this is an honest conversation about what that change can look like. No judgment. Just two women sharing their experiences. This week’s challenge: Start by paying attention. Notice when you want a drink, how much you’re drinking, and how you feel the next day. Track it and see what you learn. We’re not medical professionals. This episode reflects our personal experiences. If you drink heavily or may be dependent on alcohol, talk to a doctor before stopping. Find us on Instagram @yourwellnessbesties and DM us your questions.
