Story Transcript:

Ga: Bhí gaoth fhuar ag séideadh trí na crainn, ag fágáil fuaim thaitneamhach idir na duilleoga rua. En: A cold wind was blowing through the trees, leaving a pleasant sound among the red leaves.

Ga: Bhí ceann mór Niamh ag cromadh faoin tuirse agus imní, ach sheas sí go fóill idir na tithe teanta ag an ospidéal réimse. En: Niamh's head was heavy with fatigue and worry, but she still stood among the dense houses near the hospital field.

Ga: D'fhan sí i gcóngar a deartháir níos óige, Ronan, a bhí ag streachailt leis an ngalar trom. En: She stayed close to her younger brother, Ronan, who was struggling with the serious illness.

Ga: I dteach beag bán, le greim daingean ag na cuaillí timpeall, bhí Ronan sínte le cuma fuar ar a ghnúis. En: In a small white house, held tight by the surrounding posts, Ronan lay stretched out with a cold look on his face.

Ga: Bhí ceist mhór i gcroí Niamh - an dtiocfadh sé chuige féin roimh Oíche Shamhna, an féile is ansa leis? En: Niamh had a big question in her heart - would he recover before Oíche Shamhna, his favorite festival?

Ga: Rinne sí gach rud a bhí aici chun fáil réidh leis an amhras. En: She did everything she could to dispel the doubt.

Ga: Bhí Eilis níos sine agus níos socair, ag tabhairt tacaíocht láidir do Niamh. En: Eilis, who was older and calmer, provided strong support to Niamh.

Ga: "Ní gá duit gach rud a dhéanamh féin," a dúirt sí go ciúin, lámh ar ghualainn Niamh. En: "You don't have to do everything yourself," she said quietly, with a hand on Niamh's shoulder.

Ga: Ach shíl Niamh go láidir gurbh é Ronan an freagracht aici, agus nár bhain sé leis an domhan mór fós. En: But Niamh firmly believed that Ronan was her responsibility, and he hadn't yet belonged to the wider world.

Ga: Lá amháin, bhí stoirm trom sa spéir; bhí an ghaoth ag scuabadh na báistí siar agus aniar. En: One day, a heavy storm was in the sky; the wind was sweeping the rain back and forth.

Ga: Bhí Niamh ag faire ar bhéal Ronan, ag dul i moilleach. En: Niamh was watching Ronan's mouth, slowing down.

Ga: Níor fhan sí suaimhneach. En: She wasn't at ease.

Ga: Thart ar an leaba, bhí sí ag faire ar an trealamh simplí, ag lorg bealach chun an cúram a dhoimhniú. En: Around the bed, she watched the simple equipment, looking for a way to deepen the care.

Ga: "Caithfimid rud éigin a dhéanamh," a dúirt Niamh agus í ag dul i gcomhairle leis an bpearsanra eile. En: "We have to do something," said Niamh as she consulted with the other personnel.

Ga: "Ní mór dúinn a bheith cruthaitheach." En: "We need to be creative."

Ga: Bhíodh sí ag dul i mbun oibre láithreach, ag cruthú córais nua le cabhrú lena dheartháir. En: She would immediately start working, creating new systems to help her brother.

Ga: An oíche sin, ar fud na stoirme, d'fhan Niamh i dteannta Ronan. En: That night, throughout the storm, Niamh stayed with Ronan.

Ga: Nuair a bhí a bhéal ag dul níos gasta agus anáil níos cobhsaí, dhúisigh sé léi go mall. En: When his mouth moved faster and his breathing became more stable, he slowly awoke to her.

Ga: Bhí spiorad úr ina dhá shúil. En: There was a fresh spirit in his eyes.

Ga: "Niamh," a labhair sé go ciúin, "an mbeidh mé abhaile ar an bhFéile Shamhna?" En: "Niamh," he spoke quietly, "will I be home for Féile Shamhna?"

Ga: Bhí Niamh ag tabhairt barróg dó go daingean. En: Niamh hugged him tightly.

Ga: "Tá tú ag teacht ar ais," ar sí le dóchas nua ina glór. En: "You're coming back," she said with newfound hope in her voice.

Ga: Ar ficheathrú lá, bhí rian d'áilleacht an Oíche Shamhna sa tírdhreach, leis na lampaí beaga lasta sa teallach dóite ar an chamchuairt. En: On the twenty-fourth day, there was a trace of the beauty of Oíche Shamhna in the landscape, with small lamps lit in the hearth burning on
