Summary
Ohio veterans express their discontent regarding Senator Sherrod Brown's proposed taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants, arguing that it undermines the health care and benefits they fought for during their service. They claim that while they upheld their commitments, Brown has failed to honor his promises to veterans by attempting to eliminate VA health care.
The discussion shifts to a broader examination of capitalism, particularly focusing on the role of capitalists as entities that seek to maximize surplus value from labor. The conversation delves into Karl Marx's analysis of capitalism, portraying capitalists as "vampires" that consume labor to generate profit. This metaphor highlights the exploitative nature of the capitalist system, where the drive for profit often leads to the overexploitation of workers.
Marx's theories are further explored, emphasizing the limits placed on capital's ability to exploit labor, which stem from various factors including the physical and moral capacities of workers, their social conditions, and the laws governing labor. The dialogue underscores the tension between the capitalist's relentless pursuit of surplus value and the worker's struggle for fair compensation and humane working conditions.

How do fights over the length of the working day affect the capital system? What is absolute surplus value?Uploaded 25-03-26A chapter by chapter study of Marx’s powerful analysis in Capital: Critique of Political Economy, Volume 1. This book from 1872 is still the best guide to the predatory economic and social system within which we live. The book solves five basic mysteries in our social world. The mysteries are: why social classes struggle against one another, why human beings are in the thrall of things, how a quantity of money turns into more money without seeming to add anything, why some people are forced to work and the more they work the less they make proportional to their effort, and finally, and why it is so hard to transform the system for the better.
