1/200 hosts Greens candidate Louise Hutt to discuss the challenges and issues in the Hamilton West electorate. The electorate has many of the same concerns as the rest of Aotearoa during this Cost of Living Crisis, and there’s plenty of opportunity for progressive policy. We talk Te Huia trains, environmental policy, infrastructure and candidate safety.

We host Mahdis Azarmandi and David Small to discuss the lack of foreign policy discussion during an election where the global political environment should be at the forefront of our minds. From the macro state of geopolitics, to the ways in which our parliamentary parties are being pulled into, or are complicit in, a western chauvinist consensus that may leave us dangerously vulnerable.
Tony Greenstein, author of Zionism During the Holocaust, discusses the history of Zionism and anti-Zionism. Zionism before World War II was a minority position among Jews mostly associated with elite and right-wing politics. Political Zionism was a Christian invention first and has always had a strong affinity with antisemitism, to the extent that many Jewish Zionists have expressed support for antisemitism. Many were themselves profoundly antisemitic. Tony describes the price he has paid for being a premature anti-Zionist and for failing to compromise his principles. He has been expelled from UK’s Labour and Green Parties. He was also charged under the UK’s terrorism act and faced 14 years in prison. Rather than leaving the matter to his barrister, Tony gave his own speech to summarise his defence – a speech that has since been published around the world. Tony’s work can be found at tonygreenstein.com and his speech here: https://www.themeetingplacewymington.co.uk/tony-greensteins-closing-speech
We discuss the return of Alliance Party to national politics in Aotearoa. Their values and platform are explicitly on the left. So we asked them about who they are, how they see the current political environment and where they are winning support. What are they adding to the campaign? What is working? What are their plans for the future? With guests Victor Billot (Party Leader) & Sionainn Byrnes (Party Secretary)
Our guest Moko talks about the encampment in the red zone of Ōtautahi/Christchurch where he lives. We discuss the situation with the encampment, Moko’s long history of being unhomed and working to help others in the community. With the third reading of the Summary Offences (Move-on Orders) Amendment Bill having just passed, we discuss the politics of housing and the culture within the agencies that offer assistance.
1/200 chats with the Green's Māngere candidate Michel Mulipola. We discuss the challenges facing the electorate, the cost of living and the importance of politicians being a voice for their community.
