Summary
The Pitchside team kicks off their World Cup coverage from New York City, where they express excitement for the tournament and share their plans for live podcasts and vlogs. The hosts discuss their experiences so far, including a night out that left them hungover for their first show. They also touch on the atmosphere in New York, noting that it feels more like an NBA town at the moment, with little visible World Cup spirit.
As they delve into England's preparations, the conversation shifts to player selections, particularly focusing on Declan Rice's vice-captaincy and the debate over Jude Bellingham's role in the squad. The hosts argue about the merits of various players, including Bellingham and Morgan Rogers, while also discussing the potential impact of injuries on the team's performance. The excitement builds as they anticipate the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, with predictions about how the home nations will fare in the tournament.
The episode wraps up with the hosts planning a sweepstake for the World Cup, assigning teams to each member and setting challenges related to their chosen nations. They emphasize the importance of enjoying the tournament and engaging with fans, while also expressing their hopes for England's success.
