Show Notes
From dehumanization to arms production, For the benefit of a nation or its destruction, Power is power; it’s the law of the land. Hey and welcome to a brand new episode of CINEPUNX!! On this spectacular episode we are joined by scholar and friend of the show Willa-Rae Culpepper to discuss new A24 film Civil War. Culpepper studies conflicts, and brings her incredible expertise as well as a good helping of nerdiness to our conversation. Josh and I both felt like Civil War really missed the mark in some ways, but brought up interesting discussion in others, and Willa was struck by the ways the film reflected the realities on the ground in Civil conflicts. There is also a good bit of discussion about film reception and interpretation as well.
If you would like to read a much more extended version of her thoughts on the film you can find that here. I think our conversation covered a lot of area, apologies if I ran my mouth too much, just an interesting topic to me. We of course discuss our usual topics and update on things we love and hate. Thanks for listening, tell a friend, and of course CEASE FIRE NOW!

More from Cinepunx
You can hardly believe it but those stalwart boys of Cinepunx are back! On this explosive new episode we get into it on two classic films we should have seen already, but somehow had not: Apocalypse Now and Platoon. We specifically watched the redux edition of Apocalypse Now if that matters to you, which I had not seen before now. Despite some reservations about the style of these movies, some of the narrative decisions, and the method they were made, we were mostly blown away by these movie.
NEW EPISODE IS HERE! Join us as we explore one of the greatest directors of the 20th Century, Yasujiro Ozu by discussing his most famous film, Tokyo Story.
COME AT YAH WITH A BRAND NEW EPISODE!
BACK TOGETHER AND IT FEELS SO GOOD! Hey friends, welcome to our new episode as we check in on the cinema of today! Basically, we are working to try and record more, and I would LOVE to blame Josh but in reality scheduling has been hard for both of us. Episode is still super good, so no worries, but yes, it is a bit of a catch up so we have something to put out. Still love you though
