128 - Why Time Blocking Doesn't Work for Working Moms (and What to Do Instead)
The Life Coach for Working Moms PodcastShow Notes
If you've ever tried time blocking and thought "this doesn't work for me", this episode is for you.
Time blocking is hard for working moms. Kids get sick, deadlines move, and the hour you set aside for email disappears into whatever caught fire that morning. Once you start dismissing those calendar reminders, your brain stops seeing them at all (just like that pile of clothes in the corner!).
In this solo episode, I'm sharing a flexible approach to time blocking that I use in my own calendar and recommend to my clients. Instead of recurring blocks, you set limits: how many hours of meetings you can handle in a day, how much time you need for email, and how much focused work you need to get done. Then you look two weeks ahead on a rolling basis and protect that time before anyone else takes it. You stay proactive with your calendar and still have room for real life.
If you've tried time blocking and quit, this might be the version that works. Listen in for how to get started.

Working moms today spend more time with their kids than stay-at-home moms did a generation ago, while men's time on housework has barely changed. No wonder so many of us are exhausted.
From now until the end of the year we add a whole second list on top of everything else and just expect that we'll somehow fit it all in. It's no wonder working moms feel exhausted by the new year!
What if the fight about the dishwasher was never about the dishwasher? Working motherhood is hard, and when you're carrying more than your fair share of the mental load, it's easy to say "I feel like I'm doing everything and you're doing nothing," an argument you've had many times before.
Working motherhood is hard, and most of us believe that if we just got through the list, we'd finally feel calm. But what if your to-do list isn't the reason you feel overwhelmed?
What if the woman in the mirror staring back at you doesn't feel like you anymore?
