Tracey’s life began in circumstances no child should ever have to endure. After entering the foster care system as a baby, he experienced severe childhood trauma and abuse that eventually led to addiction, treatment facilities, suicide attempts, and years of trying to outrun his past. But God kept placing people in his path who refused to give up on him. His adoptive parents. A caseworker who fought for him. A judge who saw something worth saving. And eventually Hannah—the woman who would become his wife and help him realize that what he had been through did not have to define who he was. Today, Tracey is a husband, father, firefighter, and paramedic. And in an incredible full-circle chapter of his story, the former foster child eventually became a foster father himself. When Hannah and Tracey welcomed Austin into their home, they had no idea how many “Godwinks” would surround his adoption—including an unbelievable connection between Austin’s case and Tracey’s own foster-care story decades earlier. This is a powerful conversation about trauma, recovery, faith, marriage, foster care, adoption, redemption, and the angels God places in our lives when we need someone willing to fight for us. And Hannah and Tracey leave us with this beautiful truth: There is nowhere you can go that Jesus won’t still love you. Your sin can never outrun God’s grace. Go look for those angels. 🤍 Content note: This episode includes discussion of childhood abuse, sexual abuse, suicide attempts, addiction, and the death of a child. Have you encountered angels? Sometimes the most helpful thing a friend can do is simply be there. In this Short Story Wednesday, Brent joins his friend Kyle Evans at a campsite in the Idaho mountains. They look back on the adoption scam that left Brent and Mikaela heartbroken—and how Kyle’s presence helped Brent feel God’s love when he needed it most. With plenty of laughter along the way, their conversation turns to family, choosing to do hard things, and why prayer matters even when God already knows what we need. Kyle shares an experience from a fishing trip in Chile and a reflection about a shepherd’s care for a rejected lamb. Brent closes with what he knows to be true about Jesus Christ’s love and the hope of being made whole. Go look for those angels. 🤍
Ashton Buswell felt four hands comforting him as he cried and prayed. Later, when he asked who else had been there, the man who had come to help answered: “It was just me.” In “Four Hands, One Person,” Ashton joins Brent and Mikaela on Angels Among Us Podcast to share his personal account of an angel encounter, his children’s faith, and the everyday moments that have helped his family recognize God’s love. Ashton opens up about the eight miscarriages he and his wife, Lydia, experienced, his daughter’s belief that her brother Hayden protected her, and the unexpected ways their daughter Ruth brought comfort and strengthened faith. At just two years old, Ruth wanted to spend time with a neighbor grieving the death of her husband—offering the simple comfort of being together. From angels seen and unseen to the people who become answers to prayer, this conversation invites us to notice who needs our love and how we can be there for them.
