Your Selflessness Might Be Fear: Why Christian Wives Walking on Eggshells Don’t Feel Worthy Christian marriage | walking on eggshells | self-confidence | boundaries without guilt If you panic at the thought of blocking time for yourself… this episode is for you.

One of the first ways I can tell a woman is struggling with feeling worthy isn’t by what she says about her husband or her marriage.

It’s by what happens when I ask her to commit to something that affects her calendar.

There’s hesitation. Guilt. A need to check with everyone. A tightening in her chest.

And I say this with compassion — not criticism.

Many Christian wives have quietly learned to believe that their time is not their own. That their needs are optional. That saying yes to their own growth requires permission.

In this episode, I’m naming something that may feel uncomfortable:

What we’ve been calling humility might actually be fear.

Fear of disappointing someone. Fear of being misunderstood. Fear of being seen as selfish. Fear of rocking the boat in our marriage.

And when fear disguises itself as selflessness, it slowly erodes our sense of worth.

We begin to believe that enduring more makes us more worthy. That disappearing makes us more godly. That exhaustion equals faithfulness.

But that is not stewardship.

And it is not peace.

We are called to steward what we’ve been given — not bury it, not abandon it, not hand it over out of fear. Your time is a gift. Your mind is a gift. Your emotional capacity is a gift. When you stop stewarding them, you don’t feel holy. You feel invisible. In this episode, we talk about: Why self-martyrdom feels righteous but produces resentment How fear hides underneath “being a good wife” Why overburdened calendars create overburdened minds How walking on eggshells is often connected to internal self-erasure The first small shift that restores self-confidence without rebellion

If your calendar feels suffocating… If your mind feels crowded… If you secretly resent how much you carry…

There is another way. And it begins with courage — not control. Workshop Invitation – February 28, 2026 This Saturday, February 28, I’m hosting a live workshop for wives who are ready to untangle their overburdened calendars and quiet their overburdened minds.

We will: Identify fear disguised as humility Restore ownership of your time without guilt Create breathing room in your schedule Cultivate emotional safety in your own mind Experience more of God’s peace in your heart Not by abandoning your responsibilities. But by stewarding them wisely. If this episode stirred something in you, I would love for you to join me. Details are in the link below. Helper or Enabler? Finding Your Voice as a Christian Wife Carrie introduces a new coaching program for Christian wives who feel they are walking on eggshells, inviting the first 10 women to email for an application to join weekly personal coaching at a founding price of 997 Canadian dollars to learn to speak up with courage and grace without apologizing, shutting down, or trying to control outcomes. In the episode, she asks whether wives are truly their husbands’ helpers or have become enablers who make excuses, buffer consequences, and say yes to avoid conflict, creating codependent and unhealthy dynamics. She encourages wives to show up as purposeful partners, state what they agree or disagree with, set boundaries about what they will and won’t do, and stop seeking approval, sharing how her marriage has helped her grow in confidence and reliance on God. 00:00 New Coaching Program 00:40 Founding Member Offer 02:32 Welcome and Big Question 02:42 Helper or Enabler 06:26 Stop Being the Yes Man 07:51 Your Role in Marriage 08:59 Personal Growth Story 10:04 Stand Alone in Faith 10:54 Invitation and Goodbye

Carrie Allemeersch addresses Christian wives who have been waiting for their husbands to become spiritual leaders and argues that obedience to God should not be put on hold until a husband changes. She distinguishes self-leadership from taking over a husband’s role and uses the biblical example of Deborah to show that a woman’s calling is not dependent on her husband’s actions. She encourages women to pray, serve, prioritize church, cultivate gifts, build family traditions, and create a peaceful home without seeking a “permission slip,” while honoring a husband and respecting his choices. She warns that what is called submission may be fear, urges making a list of personal versus husband responsibilities, and emphasizes faithfulness over controlling others. When an important relationship becomes strained, it is easy to question not only what happened but what your pain says about you. In this episode of The Worthy Wife, Carrie offers a careful way to examine that question without turning grief into another reason to condemn yourself. Loving your family deeply, wanting a relationship restored and grieving limited contact do not automatically prove idolatry. The more revealing question is whether you have given another person the authority to establish your identity, worth or peace. In this episode:

Have you made your husband—or even your marriage—the center of your life? For years, I didn't realize how much of my life was being organized around my husband's happiness, opinions, reactions and approval. Eventually, I had to separate myself from my husband. I don't mean that I left my marriage. I mean that I had to remember something important: My husband and I are two different people. I am not my husband. I am not my marriage. And being a Christian wife does not mean making my husband the reference point for every decision I make. In this episode of The Worthy Wife Podcast, I'm sharing part of my own marriage story and what happened when I stopped trying to manage my husband, protect the marriage at all costs, and keep everyone happy—and put God back at the center of my life. We talk about: • How husband-pleasing can quietly replace God-pleasing• Why making your marriage your highest priority can create fear and pressure• The difference between honoring your marriage and making an idol of it• Why your husband's mood, approval and choices are not yours to manage• What changed when I stopped making my husband my reference point• Why putting yourself at the center isn't the answer either• How your decisions change when you ask, “Does this bring glory to God?”• Why becoming more like Christ—not more like your husband—is the goal• What it can look like to trust God with the outcome of your marriage You can be a loving, faithful Christian wife even when your husband is unhappy with you. You can stop arranging your life around avoiding his anger, disappointment or disapproval. And you can stop carrying responsibility for a marriage outcome that ultimately belongs to God. You and your husband are two different people. Your job is not to become more like him. Your job is to become more like Christ. If you're having a hard time separating who you are from your husband or your marriage, this is the work I do with Christian wives. We untangle what belongs to you, what belongs to your husband, and what needs to be placed back into God's hands—so you can make decisions from faith rather than fear. Does turning the other cheek mean a Christian wife should tolerate hurtful behavior, stay quiet, or avoid setting boundaries in her marriage? A listener recently asked me this after hearing an episode about Christian boundaries. It’s an important question because many Christian women have learned to connect being loving, forgiving, and Christlike with keeping the peace—even when that means ignoring what is actually happening. But what if turning the other cheek and setting a boundary aren't opposites at all? In this episode of The Worthy Wife Podcast, we look at what Jesus modeled when He faced criticism, demands, conflict, and opposition. Sometimes He answered. Sometimes He confronted. Sometimes He remained silent. And sometimes He simply walked away. We’ll talk about Proverbs 15:1 and 1 Peter 3:9 and consider what it means to respond without retaliation while still having clear boundaries. You'll learn why a boundary isn't about controlling your husband's behavior. It's about deciding how you will respond to his behavior. We’ll also explore the difference between being a peacemaker and a peacekeeper, why gentleness doesn't make you responsible for someone else's anger, and why you don't have to defend yourself against every accusation. And I want you to consider one uncomfortable question: When you ask, “But aren't I supposed to turn the other cheek?” are you genuinely asking how Jesus wants you to respond—or are you looking for biblical permission to keep doing what you have done all along: staying quiet, avoiding his displeasure, and calling it love? Turning the other cheek doesn't mean: You may do whatever you want to me. It can mean: What you do doesn't get to decide who I become next. If you're a Christian wife who is walking on eggshells, struggling with guilt around boundaries, afraid of your husband's disapproval, or unsure where loving him ends and taking responsibility for his emotions begins, this episode is for you. If you're ready to stop walking on eggshells and want help sorting out what belongs to you, what doesn't, and how you want to show up in your marriage, I work privately with Christian women through high-touch coaching.
