Greta WireShow Notes
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reveals she completes an egg retrieval procedure as part of her decision to freeze her eggs and take greater control over future fertility choices.
- Dr. Jennifer Ashton explains how public figures discussing personal health issues can increase awareness, reduce stigma and encourage more people to consider their own medical options.
- Ashton says frozen eggs can remain cryopreserved indefinitely, while one retrieval cycle typically costs about $10,000 to $15,000 before ongoing storage fees.
- Egg freezing improves future fertility odds but does not guarantee a live birth, with success depending heavily on factors including age and the number and quality of eggs retrieved.
- Ashton outlines potential risks including infection, bleeding and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, while noting that egg quantity and quality begin declining more significantly around age 30.
