SYNOPSIS: David arrives at Blue Moon to find the staff busily cleaning and polishing the office in preparation for Walter’s visit. Herbert is less enthusiastic, describing him as “the human goiter on the neck of life.” When Walter arrives, David introduces himself and downplays his relationship with Maddie, giving Walter a very different impression from what he has previously heard.
During one of their familiar, fast-paced arguments, Maddie tells David she wishes she’d had a lavish wedding to show Walter how much she loves him. Inspired, David decides to organise the celebration himself, while Herbert and McGillicuddy plan a bachelor party for the groom. When the stripper calls in sick, Herbert secretly takes her place, emerging from an oversized cake and performing a routine in one of Moonlighting’s most hilarious and memorable scenes. David brings Terri, his Lamaze class partner, to the wedding, leaving Maddie distracted by the unfamiliar woman sitting beside him. When Terri goes into labour during the ceremony, the festivities give way to a frantic trip to the hospital.
Amid the chaos, Maddie and David’s bickering reaches boiling point. They insist they hate each other, but Terri has heard enough and tells them what everyone else can see: they’re in love and should just kiss already! Fans are rewarded with another passionate kiss, while Walter delivers the baby, Walter Hayes Addison Knowles. The episode closes with a touching moment between Maddie and David.
