How much of your life can you spend trying to be chosen before you begin to choose yourself? Nakiah Alam grew up searching for where she belonged. She navigated two faiths, longed for her father’s approval, and became a mother at seventeen. Through early motherhood, years of survival, and the end of a sixteen year relationship, she kept finding her way forward. In Episode 24, Nakiah and I talk about the weight of rejection, the love that helped carry her, and what it means to stop measuring your worth by someone else’s acceptance. We also talk about motherhood, faith, and becoming the person you are when you no longer have to earn your place.

There is something beautiful about finding a person you can love deeply and tell absolutely everything to. Someone who makes an ordinary evening feel like the place you’ve spent your whole life trying to get to. Someone whose presence gives you room to exhale. 🤍 Bri & Lo join Geraldo on Maybe This Matters for “A Love That Heals,” a conversation about love, friendship, and the beauty of feeling at home with another person. At the heart of this episode is a question: What becomes possible when we feel safe enough to be fully ourselves? To be known beyond the easy parts. To have our smallest joys celebrated. To make room for growth, tenderness, and laughter along the way. To look at the person beside us and realize that the love of our life is also our best friend. For anyone learning what love can look like, what they need within it, or what they hope to build with someone, there is room for you in this conversation. Welcome to Maybe This Matters. Because maybe it does.
What happens when you start wanting more for yourself than the life you were taught to accept? In Episode 26 of Maybe This Matters, I sit down with Cara Leigh Clinton for a conversation about breaking patterns, questioning inherited expectations, and giving ourselves permission to build a life that feels like our own. We talk about parenthood, love, divorce, and mental health. About the relationships that shape us, the expectations we carry from our families, and what it means to want something different without having every step figured out. Cara also shares her transition from Christianity to spirituality, making space for a conversation about faith, changing beliefs, and the questions that come with understanding what you believe for yourself. We explore her social media family, the community she has built online, and the connection that can grow when people feel seen in one another’s stories. Through it all is a question so many of us are learning to answer: What do I want to carry forward, and what am I ready to change? What happens when the kind of love you want to build is different from the love you grew up seeing? Haley and MonDarius Black sit down with me for an honest conversation about love, marriage, partnership, and what it means to intentionally create something you may not have had a blueprint for. We talk about learning each other, choosing each other through different seasons, communication, growth, grief expectations, parenting, and the work that comes with building a relationship that feels safe, healthy, and uniquely yours. Because sometimes love is not about recreating what you saw growing up. Sometimes it is about having the courage to become the example you wish you had. In this episode of Maybe This Matters, Kay Lani Rivera opens up about motherhood, postpartum depression, identity, and the pressure of being the person everyone needs. From a childhood shaped by instability to building a family of her own, she reflects on learning to survive, losing touch with herself, and finding beauty within herself again. Drew joins the conversation to explore how his own upbringing shaped his understanding of vulnerability, love, and fatherhood. Together, they discuss building a blended family, breaking generational cycles, and learning to support each other while working through their own struggles. This is a conversation about the parts of ourselves we lose in our responsibilities, the courage it takes to ask for support, and making room for who we are beyond being a parent or a partner. If you’ve ever loved the life you’re building but wondered where you fit inside it, this conversation is for you. Available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. Maybe This Matters. How do you find peace with the parts of life you can’t control? In Episode 22 of Maybe This Matters, I sit down with Evie Spice for a conversation about identity, grief, confidence, and learning to care for yourself through circumstances you never chose. From being adopted and navigating belonging to growing up with vitiligo, we explore the experiences that shape how we see ourselves. We talk about the difference between confidence and self-love, and how much of a person’s story can remain unseen behind what they share online. We also talk about the weight of grief, the pressure to keep showing up while hurting, and the mental and emotional impact of living with vitiligo. Through it all, we return to what taking care of yourself means beyond appearance, and why believing you’re worth that care matters.
