The Pregnancy Diaries with Midwives Amanda and Jess

Show Notes

Today on Pregnancy Diaries Podcast we are joined by Brittany from Safe Kids First Aid, a paediatric emergency nurse with 11 years experience teaching parents and families life saving baby and child first aid skills. After completing a baby and child first aid and CPR course ourselves, we sat down to talk about the emergencies parents fear most including choking, infant CPR, allergic reactions, fevers, head injuries and when to call an ambulance.

We also discuss the difference between choking and gagging, how social media can increase parenting anxiety and why learning first aid helps parents feel prepared instead of panicked. This is an episode every parent, grandparent and caregiver should hear.

Disclaimer This podcast episode is for general educational purposes only and does not replace professional medical advice, emergency care or accredited first aid training. If you are experiencing a medical emergency call emergency services immediately.

Part 2 of our Genetics Series with Elena we dive deeper into what our genetics can actually tell us. 🧬 Can two healthy parents with no family history have a baby with a genetic condition? What does a diagnosis in one child mean for siblings or future pregnancies? And what happens when genetic testing gives you a result that isn’t completely clear?

What does it actually mean when you’re told something could be genetic? 🧬 In Part 1 of our Genetics Series, we’re joined by Elena specializing in genetics to unpack genetics in a way that actually makes sense. We chat about the difference between screening and diagnostic testing, NIPT, CVS and amniocentesis, why families may be referred to genetics, and what can happen when something unexpected is picked up during pregnancy or on an ultrasound. We also explore the question so many parents immediately ask: “Is this genetic?” An informative conversation for anyone pregnant, planning a pregnancy or navigating an unexpected finding or diagnosis. 🤍 Disclaimer: This episode is for general education and information only and does not replace individual medical or genetic advice.
