Dark Mirror Spirits, Galveston Vampires, and the Real Life CANDYMAN

HORRORble Podcast

Show Notes

On this Halloween kickoff episode of the HORRORble Podcast, Askia and Spooky Gin (witch and tarot reader) go deep on the Halloween veil thinning, sin eaters, psychometry, the real life Candyman, a crossbow-wielding vampire hunter, and a haunted hearse that spoke Spanish from the back. Oh, and there was a phantom Dairy Queen. ______________________________

This is the episode for anyone who has ever wondered why Halloween feels different, why mirrors freak people out, or what actually happened with that 1974 poisoned candy legend. Spooky Gin breaks it all down, from Samhain and Día de los Muertos, to the Victorian ritual of dumb suppers, the Civil War origins of embalming, and the grim social role of sin eaters who literally ate bread off a corpse to absorb the dead man's sins.

She explains psychometry, the psychic ability to read energy stored in objects, and why she collects antique hair jewelry but refuses to touch Victorian postmortem photography. She warns against ouija board spirit attachments and casually mentions the negative entity she picked up at age 13, a persistent spirit named General Steve who shows up every time a board is nearby. She also covers why she will not touch physical money on tarot reading days, and the evil eye bracelet breaking meaning when you are under psychic attack.

The true crime corner covers Dean Corll, the Houston serial killer known as the Candyman, and the nearly unbelievable detail that her colleague was almost one of his victims. The Galveston Vampire Pageant story ends with an actual crossbow on stage.
