Show Notes
On this episode, join club hosts Dennis, Ed, Kate, Karen, and returning host Caitlin to discuss 1989's Assemble Insert! Only one thing can stop this mecha gang from wrecking Tokyo: super strong idol singer Maron Namikaze, that's who. See her rise to the top of the charts and her fanbase's hearts. Just watch your surroundings, because there's a lot of collateral damage in this one. It's enough paperwork and phone call complaints to make the chief cry. But as long as there's a nearby video rental store and a morning pick-me-up energy drink, the Anti-Demon Seed brigade is on the case. 0:00:00 - Intro & Some Anime News 0:06:53 - The Watchlist 0:32:32 - Production Notes 0:39:14 - EP1: Part 1 1:17:22 - EP2: Part 2 1:54:34 - Voices, Final Thoughts, & Kanpai Unfortunately, Assemble Insert is currently out of print, but you can still support the show by donating to our Ko-Fi link below. On this episode, join hosts Ed, Garrett, Dennis, Karen, & Kate along with returning guest Ryan as we discuss our surprise miniseries, the 1988 Starship Troopers OVA. As we're taking a small break from Rayearth, we're going to cover this 6 episode OVA over the course of the next 3 podcast episodes. Since this was never released in the US, you'll have to search for it on YouTube or similar video platforms to see it. Unlike the late 90s film, these soldiers have power armor to use! But before Johnny Rico can pilot one, he has to finish basic training first. 0:00:00 - Intro & Some Anime News 0:09:55 - The Watchlist 0:31:06 - Our Starship Troopers History & Production Notes 0:52:13 - E1: JOHNNY 1:18:02 - E2: HENDRICK 1:44:15 - Voices, Final Thoughts, & Kanpai Special thanks Ryan for joining us on this episode! But it's not over yet. Though we are taking a break with this series, we will finish up part two in the very near future. But now we can compare it to the upcoming fall 2026 reboot. We get new magic spells, new magic weapons, and even a new villain to face. Other talking points include Hikauru's bad pet name, fighting those you love, 1 pixel spring, poorly executed betrayals, and forgetting about healing magic. 0:00:00 - Intro & Some Anime News 0:12:21 - The Watchlist 0:30:15 - Sanjay & Rishon's Rayearth History 0:33:34 - E5: Escudo, the Legendary Ore 0:50:07 - E6: Lives at Stake - Presea's Weapons 1:10:38 - E7: Ferio in Desperation - A Romance in the Desert 1:30:52 - E8: The Horrible Trap of Summoner Ascot 1:49:45 - Voices, Final Thoughts, & Kanpai Special thanks again for Rishon (@pork-sly) & Sanjay (@sanjay.vas) for joining this episode!
