How Joseph Smith Predicted the Civil War I The Complete Story (Restoration Revealed Episode 14)
Scripture Central: LDS Come Follow Me & Church HistorySummary
Joseph Smith's 1832 prophecy, known as the Prophecy on War, foretells a civil conflict in the United States, specifically predicting that the war would begin in South Carolina. This prophecy, recorded in Section 87 of the Doctrine and Covenants, describes a division between northern and southern states and warns of broader international implications, including the involvement of foreign nations. The discussion highlights the historical context of this prophecy, particularly the tensions in South Carolina during the nullification crisis, which foreshadowed the eventual outbreak of the Civil War.
The conversation transitions to the significance of the Battle of Gettysburg, often regarded as a turning point in the Civil War. The hosts examine the high casualty rates and the emotional toll on the local population, as well as President Lincoln's pivotal Gettysburg Address, which reframed the war as a struggle for freedom rather than merely a political dispute. The discussion emphasizes the importance of understanding these historical events in light of Smith's prophecies, suggesting that they serve as both a warning and a call to seek peace and righteousness in the face of conflict. The episode concludes with a message of hope, encouraging listeners to find solace in their faith amid the trials of the latter days.

Church history expert and explorer, Casey Griffiths travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to uncover the truth behind several prophecies that Joseph Smith the prophet made about wars that would consume the United States and nations across the world. How well known were they to the people of Joseph's time period? Did they actually occur as he described them? Did Joseph predict additional wars beyond the Civil War?
Doctrine and Covenants section 87 contains a prophecy about the Civil War given almost 30 years before the actual conflict. Specifically, the revelation foretold the division of the Southern and Northern states and the subsequent conflict, including slaves rising up against their masters. The revelation was given by Joseph Smith on December 25, 1832, in response to concerns about growing international troubles and the potential dissolution of the United States.
In this episode Casey Griffiths will travel first to Kirtland, Ohio, where the Civil War prophecy was received. Joining him at his next stop in Pennsylvania is U.S. history expert Jared Riddick. While visiting the Gettysburg battle site, the two of them will discuss several facts from the Civil War contrasted with Joseph Smith's actual prophecy. Casey then travels to a military cemetery in Utah to offer his final verdict about the prophecies while visiting the grave site of his own relative, a Korean War military veteran.

The last days as described in Matthew 24 may make us anxious and afraid. The symbols found in the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), assures us Christ brings peace through his loving grace. Just as the blowing of the trumpets signaled to Israel the time to prepare for the holiest of days, the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), so too should we listen to the trumpets that have sounded and spiritually prepare to meet our Lord and Savior.Uploaded 18-09-20Chapters0:00 The Importance of Jewish Feasts0:52 Feasts of the Early Harvest2:07 The Jewish High Holy Days2:39 Number Symbolism in the Feast of Trumpets3:17 History of Rosh Hashanah3:47 Symbolism of the Trumpets6:05 Significance for Latter-day Saints6:49 ConclusionSign up for email notifications for new videos here: https://bit.ly/2uV4vloFor more videos on the Life of Christ: https://bit.ly/2FgnMlSFor the text of this video: Produced and narrated by Daniel SmithWritten by Heather Ruth PackSpecial thanks to:LUMO for allowing me to use their life of Christ footage, watch their amazing videos at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjiDMt6Lm1jYQvSp4BROWVw© 2020 Daniel Smith, Messages of Christ YouTube ChannelNo portion of this video may be reproduced, re-uploaded, or copied without prior permission. The products (services) offered by Messages of Christ are neither made, provided, approved nor endorsed by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
