Does the Planck Length Disrupt E=MC^2?

PBS Space Time

Summary

Marketers are increasingly concerned about the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns, particularly when metrics like impressions do not translate into actual revenue. This phenomenon, referred to as "bullspend," highlights the disconnect between positive dashboard metrics and tangible business results. Experts emphasize the importance of focusing on revenue generation rather than just reach, with platforms like LinkedIn being noted for delivering the highest return on ad spend among major networks.

In the realm of physics, discussions center around the evolution of relativity and its implications for understanding the universe. The conversation traces the historical development from Galileo's insights on relative motion to Einstein's theories, which sought to reconcile inconsistencies between classical mechanics and electromagnetism. The introduction of quantum mechanics further complicated the landscape, leading to ongoing efforts to unify general relativity with quantum principles.

Recent theories, such as doubly special relativity, propose modifications to the dispersion relation that could have significant implications for energy and momentum conservation. These theories suggest that the Planck length and energy might be invariant across different reference frames, challenging traditional notions of how these constants behave under varying velocities. Experimental efforts to test these predictions, particularly regarding the speed of light and high-energy photons, continue to yield inconclusive results, leaving the scientific community eager for breakthroughs that could illuminate the quantum nature of spacetime.

Every good nerd knows that E=mc^2. Every great nerd knows that, really, E^2=m^2c^4+p^2c^2 Want to know what that even means? Sure, I’ll tell you, but today I’d like to invite you to an even higher level of nerdom with extra bits to Einstein’s famous equation that will make even the greatest nerds quiver in their … space time merch if they turn out to be real.

In this first episode of the PBS DS mini-series, STELLAR, Matt travels to the top of Mauna Kea to visit the Gemini North telescope and see just how they found this ancient Quasar and it’s massive black hole. Stellar is a brand new miniseries done in collaboration with Dianna Cowern from @Physics Girl and Joe Hanson from @It's Okay To Be Smart Over six episodes we travel to some of the world's most important telescopes, go inside amazing space research centers, and talk with brilliant scientists. Next up, Dianna from Physics Girl visits LIGO observatory in Washington that detected the very first gravitational waves. Then Joe Hanson visits one of the telescopes that was part of world spanning Event Horizon Telescope. You'll be able to see future episodes on the Physics Girl and It’s Okay to be Smart YouTube channels, as well as the PBS Digital Studios Facebook page. Stellar is a part of the PBS Summer of Space. There will be lots of awesome space-related content all summer long on PBS.
