With Dublin Marathon approaching, I decided to do an extra episode taking the best bits from marathoners I've previously interviewed. There's fantastic advice in here for any marathon. They discuss such things as their experiences of marathons, mistakes, training tips; dealing with bad days and what to do on the day itself. Contributors (with time slots if you're busy) include: (1.30 -17.45) Mick Clohisey: Dublin Marathon winner and 2 time Olympian with a 2.13 pb discusses his good and bad experiences and training. (17.45-29.00 )Jenny Hitchings: WR holder at W55 with a 2.45 talks about London Marathon, pacing tips and training/life balance. (29.00- -37.27 ) Ann- Marie McGlynn: First Irish lady in Dublin Marathon in 2024 as a masters runner. She has a 2.29 pb and runs at top senior international level . She talks about her amazing achievements and training pace advice. (37.27-50.34) Martin Kelly M60, has done all the Dublin Marathons with a sub 3 in his day. Filled with great planning and race day tips. (50.34- 59.45) Colin Griffin: Olympian racewalker who has a 2.23 marathon and is an expert on injury advice particularly tendons which he discusses here. (59.45- 1.04.41 ) Maria McCambridge is a Dublin Marathon winner and Olympian. She chats about the boost from a new coach who focused on easy days and variation which had been alien to her. (1.04.41-1.09.55) Michael Counsel started marathons at 4.20, but within 3 years, he was down to 2.59. This is how he did it. 1.09.55-1.15.25) Paul Larkin gives info on a great, club marathon group training idea. (1.15.25-1.19.32) Kevin Campbell got 3rd in the Manchester Marathon this year in 2.17.38. Here he chats about his early days running over 3 hours and his errors in over training. (1.19.32- end) Josh from Flycarb discusses taking Sodium Bicarb to aid marathon performance which is what he did for London Marathon this year. Episode 115 is based on a new book called, 'The Norwegian Method Applied' by Marius Bakken whose method is used most famously by Jakub Ingebritsen. Its core is the famous double threshold we all have heard about. I've been doing it with my coach for over 6 weeks and really enjoy it. I'm going to go through the basics here for masters runners. It's definitely worth a listen folks as athletes have had huge success from it. He actually did his first double threshold session with Seb Coe's dad in 1996, who was way ahead of his time and Bakken has conducted more than 5,500 lactate tests and used himself as a long-term experiment, ultimately running 13:06 for 5,000m- a record in Norway for 20 years and he competed at two Olympics. Enjoy, share and give it a try.

This episode explores Steve Prefontaine from a masters' running perspective and in that way differs from other commentaries on his life. We learn who Steve Prefontaine was? Why his running style became iconic? Why masters’ runners connect so strongly to his message including a very kind clip from guest and top co-host, Conor Curran on why his Instagram handle is Prefontaine375? And finally what modern masters runners can still learn from him today? Enjoy, be motivated and please share.
