Show Notes
Gunsmoke presents “Cows and Cribs,” episode 478, originally broadcast on June 4, 1961. This CBS Radio drama stars William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillon, with Parley Baer as Chester and Howard McNear as Doc Adams. Written by John Meston and produced by Norman Macdonnell, this broadcast is a repeat of the original 1956 production.
When Doc Adams asks Matt and Chester to bring a fever-stricken ranch family and their baby into Dodge, the journey leads them through hard country and into the troubled lives of an impoverished homesteading family. A calf carrying another rancher’s brand raises difficult questions of hardship, compassion, and the law.
Gunsmoke presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned and mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
