Kate Middleton’s Secret Playful Side Revealed
Palace Intrigue: Harry, Meghan & the Crown. Royal Family News and Gossip.Show Notes
Prince William and Princess Catherine are reportedly taking a different approach to royal life, choosing to enjoy their public engagements while refusing to get drawn into the controversies surrounding Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
According to the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers, William and Kate are letting their work speak for itself rather than responding to the latest family disputes. The couple appear determined to have some fun along the way, presenting a more relaxed public image as they prepare for their future roles.
Royal author Ingrid Seward suggests Catherine could also play an important role in shaping a more modest monarchy when William becomes king. Her new book raises questions about whether the couple will maintain the Royal Family’s extensive collection of residences or choose a less extravagant approach.
Seward also reveals details of Kate’s childhood, including family adventure holidays in the Lake District that involved gathering firewood and bathing in tin baths.
And what is Kate really like behind palace doors?
Royal correspondent Emily Andrews says the private Catherine is much more playful than her formal public appearances might suggest. She recalls a practical joke during William and Kate’s 2014 visit to Australia, when Kate slipped a plastic spider into the lap of an unsuspecting aide who was frightened of spiders.
We also learn the Princess of Wales’s secret to drinking tea elegantly. According to etiquette expert Laura Windsor, Kate looks down into her cup rather than over its rim. And we revisit Prince Philip’s advice to Catherine about handling royal attention, including his warning that she was representing the monarchy rather than becoming a celebrity.
Meanwhile, Prince William has delivered a personal message for World Mental Health Day, urging people to reach out to anyone they fear may be struggling. William and Catherine have also supported a new toolkit designed to help sporting organizations recognize warning signs and begin potentially lifesaving conversations.
William has also helped launch a community emergency preparedness initiative, sharing a lighthearted moment with a woman whose home flooded while she was watching television. And finally, William has quietly donated approximately $6,700 to former Royal Marine Dave “Dinger” Bell, who spent 327 consecutive days rowing alone across the Pacific and Indian oceans. The donation appeared under the name “William Wales,” a surname the prince previously used during his school and military years.
