Matthew Farwell’s defense opened its side of the trial on October 28th with a weekend from 2017. Joseph Harris, a vice president at Massasoit Community College, supervised Sandra Birchmore when she worked there as a peer tutor, and he filed a report after she told him she’d tried to take her own life. On the stand, he said he has no specific memory of that conversation. Under cross-examination, he agreed it wasn’t an emergency, he called neither campus police nor 911, and he has no training to evaluate anyone. Farwell’s lawyers say Sandra was stressed and worried about her pregnancy on February 1st, 2021, and the government’s forensic expert agreed she didn’t examine Sandra’s Apple Watch until October 2026. I lay out both sides of the 29 minutes Farwell spent in her building. Closing arguments are expected the first week of November, and his lawyers told the judge it’s his decision whether he takes the stand. The brother of the man on trial for killing Sandra Birchmore got a deal before he testified. William Farwell, Matthew Farwell's twin and a former Stoughton officer, took the stand for the prosecution under a grant of immunity. He testified their relationship began in 2018, when Sandra was an adult, and admitted some of it happened while he was on duty. Sandra's medical examiner testified her office was never called to the apartment where Sandra was found. In federal court, Timothy Hudson's lawyers say one pending issue must be settled before they can advise him whether to plead guilty in Anna Kepner's death. The judge set January 15, 2027, as his deadline. Bryan Kohberger told the judge at his plea that he was satisfied with his attorneys. His petition claims those same attorneys coerced him.
