A significant incident involving law enforcement in Bilbao has raised concerns regarding the handling of recent disturbances. Juan Carlos Saenz, vice-coordinator of the SIPE, reported that 16 individuals have been detained amid ongoing unrest. He highlighted a communication from the SIPE that criticized the premature withdrawal of reinforcements and the orders preventing intervention during the attacks. Saenz explained that officers who were scheduled to work until 9 PM were sent home early, which may have contributed to the escalation of the situation.

The disturbances included the burning of a municipal police motorcycle, and Saenz noted that the first mobile brigade vehicle took an hour to arrive at the scene. He questioned the decision-making of those in charge, suggesting that a more robust police presence could have potentially mitigated the violence. Saenz indicated that the SIPE is considering legal action against the responsible parties if it is determined that orders were improperly issued, contributing to the chaos. As of now, there are no reports of injuries among the police, but the attacks are reportedly still ongoing.
