Show Notes
Before the MCU and Multiverses, before the Snyderverse, before the summers that the Shadow and the Phantom RULED the cineplexes (didn't they?), it was a world when the superhero and pulp characters reigned supreme in Saturday morning serials. The precursor of the modern action movie, their impact can be felt to this day , and since we keep our fingers on the pulse, we thought it was high time we showed them some love. So grab yer popcorn and Buck Rogers Disintegrator Pistols as we thread the projector and eat a bowl of healthy serial(s).

Download the Show here It's October, and the witching weather is slowly upon us. Or it could be the wind whipping up from Outpost 31 in Antarctica as we're about to celebrate one of the seminal horror/sci-fi films of our lifetimes: John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982). There's not much more to say about the brilliance of Carpenter's masterpiece (to us, anyway), but in the spirit of creepy and spooky, we thought it was well past time to show it some love. It's also one of those movies that's synonymous with VHS rentals, and if you're like us, you rented it repeatedly to study all its nooks and crannies. We STILL do to this day: it has story, chills, great acting and characters, and the most extraordinary physical effects of its time, but there's still a little nugget or two to catch the first time. We even give some time to the ill-fated 2011 'prequel' Thing, and suggest a back-to-back viewing to enhance the original even more. It's never a bad time to throw on The Thing, but October belongs to fright, so no time like the present. Enjoy! And be sure to leave comments about who YOU think is The Thing in the closing credits!
